Mangar Elk Lift: Essential Tool for UK Ambulances

August 20, 2016

The Mangar Elk lift quickly became an essential tool for the majority of ambulances in the United Kingdom. Since implementing the Mangar Elk Lift, paramedic's chance of musculoskeletal injury has declined and fallen individuals can receive dignified lifts.

In 2011 Northamptonshire County Council and East Midlands Ambulance Service NHS Trust created a service to treat those who have suffered a fall and help them to prevent another accident. Since falls at home, especially those involving older people, contributed to a high percentage of the EMS's service calls.

The Crisis Response Team was created to help the 30 percent of UK residents who are over the age of 65 and live at home that will fall at least once a year. This percentage increases 167% from 30 percent to 80 percent for those adults over 80 who live either in residential care or at home.

The future changes in our social demographics present a trend towards individuals with higher degrees of dementia. Aa a result are much more fragile and often can more likely become much more agitated following a fall. This trend will lead to more frequent falls both around the home and within their residential care facility.

The Crisis Response Teams provide a qualified alternative to standard EMS teams. Especially with many falls although being very frightening they are not always life-threatening and can potentially divert precious first responders from life-threatening emergencies.
Mangar Safe Patient HandlingThe Crisis Response Teams have been trained to treat the patients who have fallen and they have also invested in two specialist fall ambulances. Each of these ambulances come with Mangar Elk Lifts available to aid the patient.

In 2011 and 2012 the service assisted over 700 people. Allowing more individuals be treated in the comfort of their own home and reducing an individual's chance of repeat falls.

In 2012 the Response Teams contributed to an overall 5 percent reduction in repeat falls from 2011.
